5. Starting and running the battery test
By tapping the paired adapter, you initiate communication with the vehicle. The subsequent procedure consists of identifying the vehicle and the measurement itself, which is divided into two phases.
Vehicle identification and compatibility check
- Automatic reading (VIN): The system will try to automatically read and decode the vehicle’s VIN number. If this step is successful, all you need to do is select the specific variant of your vehicle from the list (engine power and battery capacity).
- Manual entry: If the VIN number cannot be read automatically, enter it into the app manually and then select the manufacturer, model year, model and variant of the vehicle.
- Data check: The app evaluates the vehicle’s compatibility with the EVpie service. If the vehicle is supported, a summary of the data is displayed. Check that it is correct and, if everything is in order, confirm the start of the test.
Phase 1: Static test (No movement required)
The test starts with a static part, during which the vehicle must be safely stationary.
- In this phase, the app reads the basic parameters of the battery, measures the voltage of the individual cells and determines the overall battery health (SoH).
- Your choice: After completing this phase, you can end the test in the app. In that case, you will receive a fully-fledged report from the static test without the need for a test drive. For more comprehensive data, however, we recommend continuing.
Phase 2: Dynamic test (Test drive under load)
If you decide to continue, tap the “Continue to test drive” button.
- Safety first: The app will inform you that, as the driver, you are fully responsible for the safety of the drive. Find a suitable and safe stretch of road (for example an empty straight or an incline) where the traffic situation allows sharper acceleration.
- Measurement procedure: Your task is to press the accelerator pedal firmly and maintain a high and stable engine load for as long as possible. The system expects a load of at least 50% of the power.
- Automatic completion: During the drive, no interaction with the phone or the app is required. As soon as the system records the necessary data under load, the measurement takes only 1 to 5 seconds and the dynamic test ends automatically.
